Linda Lou Cushenbery was born to Robert John Failes, Jr. and Esther Bernice Coulter Failes on September 2, 1941 in Cherokee.  She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend.  She left this world after a brief illness on December 29, 2021 at the age of 80.  She grew up five miles north of Cherokee on her family’s farm.  She was a member of the Driftwood First Baptist Church and attended her first three years of school at Driftwood Schools, then finished out her school years at Cherokee Public Schools, graduating in May 1962.

On Christmas Eve, 1959 she married Dale Arnold Cushenbery.  They made their home in Cherokee, where they resided all their lives.  To this union five children were born: Michael, Rodney, Brenda, Deborah, and Sharon.

Linda worked most of her life in the food service industry, doing everything from washing dishes to running her own café for twelve years.  It was located at Cherokee Sales Company, where she found her love of cooking.  So many fond memories and life-long friendships were made in that little café.

Linda is survived by her three brothers, Kenneth Failes and wife, Marcia of Cherokee, Larry Failes of Cherokee, and James Failes of Midwest City; four children, Michael Cushenbery and wife, Doris of Broken Arrow, Brenda O’Connor and husband, Bob of Lockwood, Missouri, Deborah Dunn and husband, Roy of California, Missouri, and Sharon Tullis and husband, Brian Coons of Seiling. She is also survived by grandchildren, Joshua Cushenbery of Granite, Molly Blew of Austin, Texas, Jared Prewett of Enid, Jamie Weymoth of Guthrie, Byron Steier of Alva, Christopher Dunn of Fulton, Missouri, Kayla Dunn of Tebbetts, Missouri, Vicky Kemphor of California, Missouri, Carson Tullis, Payton Tullis, Keaton Tullis and Rachael Jones, all of Seiling, and eighteen great grandchildren. Linda had many special friends throughout her life, but Debra Engle was at the top of her list.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Esther Failes; Dale Cushenbery, her husband, of 46 years; sister-in-law, Bobbie Ann Failes; son, Rodney William Cushenbery, and granddaughter, Bonnie Lee Prewett.
