Obituary

Jay Allen Boehs was born on October 17, 1935 in Enid to William Boehs and Mary Schmidt Boehs and passed from this life on July 18, 2022 in Enid.  Due to the death of Jay’s mother, Mary, his stepmother, Julia Koehn Boehs, raised him with his father, William.

Jay worked as an aircraft refueler at Vance Air Force Base in Enid and was very proud to serve in this capacity.  Jay was employed in various positions with Drummond Grain Co-op and the Tonkawa Grain Co-op, spending a total of approximately forty-five years in the grain industry.  He was widely recognized as a grain expert and was sought after for his considerable expertise.

Jay married Peggy June Hand and to this union, four daughters were born: Debra Lynn, Patricia Lee, Karyl Ann, and Barbara Kay.  Jay considered his almost sixty-five years of marriage to Peggy his greatest personal achievement and success.  Jay and Peggy have resided in the Kaw City area for over thirty years.

Jay and Peggy were members of the Kaws and Squaws Square Dancing Group.  He was a Red Cross volunteer and was RSVP Volunteer of the Year through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.  Jay was a ham radio operator, a member of the IOOF / Oddfellows, and the Drummond Volunteer Fire Department. 

Those who preceded Jay in death are his mother, Mary Schmidt Boehs; his father, William Boehs; his stepmother, Julia Koehn Boehs; his brother, Wayne Dee Boehs; his sister, Wanda Caraway, and two infant sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Boehs; his four daughters, Debra Lynn Unruh, and husband, Greg, Patricia Lee Nelson and husband, Bill, Karyl Ann Paxson and husband, James, and Barbara Kay Davidson and husband, Tracy; nine grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.

A memorial service for Jay will be Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Christian Outreach in Kaw City.  Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena.  www.lanmanmemorials.com  Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
