Medford

We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Gearold Leon Pontius, 74, of Medford, Oklahoma.  He passed away at Integris Bass Hospital on July 30, 2020.

Gearold was born in Medford on May 9, 1946, the son of Emery Oscar and Lucy Agnes McDannald Pontius.  In 1966 he joined the U.S. Army as a mechanic in the 10th Trans. Co. APO SF and was deployed to the Vietnam War.  He was given an honorable discharge in 1972 and was honored with the National Campaign Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.

He was working in the oil field when he married Patricia Bently in 1983.  They lived in Medford with their one daughter, Ann Pontius (Perrett) and attended First Baptist Church of Medford.

Gearold was a kindhearted friend, great husband, and wonderful father.  He would help anyone he could.  He loved fishing and working on vehicles.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Medford; his daughter, Ann Perrett and her three children, Haley, Christian, and Payden of Atlanta, Georgia.

Gearold is preceded in death by his parents, Emery Oscar and Lucy Agnes Pontius; his sister, Marie Richardson and brother, James Pontius.

“He will be missed by many, but forgotten by none”.

Cremation arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Medford.  There will be no service in Medford but there are plans for a memorial service and burial in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at a later date.  www.lanmanmemorials.com  Facebook:  Lanman Funeral Home Inc.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to Patricia to help with her move to Georgia to receive the care she needs and to be closer to her daughter.  These donations may be made through Lanman Funeral Home.
