Donald Curl

April 4, 1967 — October 6, 2021

Medford

Donald Gene Curl, age 54, passed from this life on October 6, 2021 at Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City with his wife, Connie by his side. Donald was born April 4, 1967 to Forrest and Helen Curl in Alva, Oklahoma. Donald graduated from Medford High School in 1986. He started his career at The City of Medford on July 1, 1989. He worked on the Street Department and he  was responsible for fixing many water leaks.  He was still working for the City of Medford at the time of his death.

Donald and Connie Stephens were married on November 28, 2003. They joined their families together as one with son, John Lewis and wife, Crystal of Weatherford; daughter, Jana Cathey and husband, Jonathan of Medford; son, Frankie Roberts and wife, Kateena of Medford; daughters, Kendra and Blakeleigh Curl of Medford, and son, Bryer Curl of Medford. Donald made it his life goal to be the very best Grandpa to his grandkids: River, Luke, Beau, Dakota, Maggie, Paisley and Everett Lewis of Weatherford, Jozalynn, JaColby and Jette Cathey of Medford. Donald also had numerous children in the community whom he loved dearly. He was uncle to several nieces and nephews, many in-laws, and tons of friends he met along his journey in life.

Donald enjoyed taking his grandkids to the Bramlett Farm to feed the animals. In his younger years Donald loved collecting the ostrich eggs and he even thought it was funny when the ostrich would chase his truck kicking at him.

Donald was a large part of the community and he loved serving his community.  You would often find him up at Head Start volunteering his time with the kids who didn’t have a father figure in their lives or the kids who just wanted their Papa Donald. He also gave many years to Medford Fire Department volunteering from 1989 to when he retired in 2008.

Donald was big at competing with his kids and grandkids to see who could catch the most fish, but you better not get too close to him because he would knock you out with his huge sinkers. Donald loved to hunt and that’s where he taught his oldest daughter how to wait for the biggest buck, often scoring the “best” buck. Donald was so proud when he took his son in law and grandson hunting. His grandson shot a buck and they tracked the blood trail of that buck for hours even missing supper to find his grandson’s very first buck.  Donald bragged about it for weeks. Donald loved going camping at the sand dunes. He loved taking his family and friends with him, which is also where he taught his girls about peanut butter and sand sandwiches.

Donald is preceded in death by Forrest and Helen Curl, Julia Irvin, Nancy Curl, Roy Curl, and Charles Curl.

In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Donald is survived by his sisters, Wanda Woodmansee of Edmond, Doris Claflin and husband, Bill of Wakita; brother, Warren Curl of Nescatunga; sister-in-law, Diana Curl Leatherman of Medford.
