Dennis Wright

April 5, 1945 — June 4, 2022

Montgomery, TX

Dennis Leon Wright, age 77, of Montgomery, Texas, passed away with his family by his side on June 4, 2022.  He was born April 5, 1945 in Fairview, Oklahoma, the son of James Wright and Sylvia (Fuller) Wright.

Leon, as he was known, grew up in Isabella and graduated from Okeene High School in 1963.  He loved building things and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1967.

Leon served three years, beginning in 1968, in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.   He trained at Quantico Marine Corp Base in Virginia and was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina when he returned and left as a Captain.

After returning home, Leon and the love of his life, Jeanette Geis, eloped on February 18, 1972. They moved often following construction jobs and made many friends along the way.  While in Nebraska, he became a dad first to Colby Wright, then to Bryan Wright. He was always a hard worker and supervised so many projects, both at work and at home.  He made every hour count.

In 1978, he moved his family back to Oklahoma to farm with his father, Jim and brother, Larry.  However, his love of building remained, and he built grain silos and barns while farming and moved to Houston in 1985 to continue working in construction.  Throughout his work career, he worked for Eby Construction, McCarthy, and Williams Brothers.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and many adventures with family and friends, including a six week adventure when he and Jeanette drove over 12,000 miles from their home in Montgomery, Texas to Alaska where they were joined by the rest of the family for what became his favorite adventure of them all.

Leon built many bridges, barns, tunnels, and various projects; but what he did best was build lives.  He profoundly touched the lives of so many people.  He was a great son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and friend to everyone.

Leon is preceded in death by his father, James Wright.

He is survived by his mother, Sylvia Wright of Fairview; his wife, Jeanette Wright of Montgomery, Texas; his son, Colby Wright and wife, Sonia; grandchildren, Alex and Julia; his son, Bryan Wright and wife, Frankie; grandchildren, Bryan and Ashley; his brother, Larry Wright and wife, Linda, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
