Urmal Johnson

July 19, 1921 — June 30, 2017

Urmal Louise (Olson) Johnson was born in Freedom, Oklahoma on July 19, 1921, the daughter of Lewis Olson and Ida Prigmore Olson and passed from this life on June 30, 2017 in Enid, Oklahoma. She graduated from Freedom High School in 1939 and then attended Northwestern State College in Alva, Oklahoma for three years. She taught school in Oklahoma and Kansas and worked in the Woods County Treasurer’s office prior to moving to Topeka, Kanas in 1951. She worked for Kansas Blue Cross-Blue Shield for twenty-five years before retiring in 1976. She was married to R. Gail Johnson on January 30, 1956 in Topeka, Kansas. They were members of the West Side Christian Church in Topeka.

She was preceded in death by her husband on October 14, 1994 and her step-daughter, Joan Johnson Reed on January 7, 1996. Also preceding her in death was her brother, Wilbur Olson and wife, Edna; sister, Eva Lou Milledge and husband, George, sister, Nena Wardrop and little sister, Mildred.

Survivors include a step-son, Jim Reed and wife, Vivian of Enid, Oklahoma; three step-grandchildren, Rory Reed and wife, Gayla, Ronda Rhodes and husband, Mike, Robbie GiIlig and husband, Mick; six step-great grandchildren, Eric and wife, Katie, Erica Schultz and husband, Aaron, Alesa Murrow and husband, Caleb, Emmele Bruce, Abby Humphrey and husband, Trent and Mikala Gillig; sister, Maxine Houston and husband, Leslie; two brothers, Alden Olson and wife, Leta and Neil Olson and wife, Pat; step brother, Foy Wardrop; eleven great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor’s choice through the funeral home.
