Tom Newman was born on March 6, 1958 in Alva, Oklahoma to Vernon Newman and Shirley Wiggins. He passed away peacefully in Oklahoma City on May 1, 2021 with his family by his side.
Tom married Molly Fischer on July 23, 1977 in St. Leo, Kansas. They have resided in Ringwood, Oklahoma most of their married life raising three wonderful children. In 1978, Tom and his dad, Vernon, opened Newman Hardware. After the hardware store closed, Tom began his oilfield career. He started his own roustabout service and then later joined the Cross Timbers/XTO Energy family. In 2004, Tom retired in order to pursue his own hobbies and business ventures on a full-time basis. Some of his favorites included the limo service, professional striper fishing, competitive barbecue cook-offs, Fat and Skinnies Sandwich Shop, Lemonade Louie’s Catering, the Indian Creek Winery, and of course, The Shed’s Steakhouse Restaurant.
Tom leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Molly, of 43 years; two sons, David (Susan), Dustin (Brooke Grim); one daughter, Diana (Billy) Beck; grandchildren, Chase and Ally Newman, Kennedi Newman, and Alex, Emily, and Eva Beck; daughter-in-law, Krystal Newman; mother and stepfather, Shirley (Wiggins) and James Farmer; sister, Melinda (Michael) Koehn; brother, Greg Newman; sister-in-law, Wanda Newman and several nieces and nephews.
Tom is preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Vernon and Bonnie Newman; brother, Randy Newman; nephew, Jamie Chappell; grandparents Cecil and Frances Wiggins and Floyd and Hazel Newman.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the Ringwood High School Gymnasium. A celebration of his life will immediately follow at The Sheds patio with food, drinks and storytelling per Tom’s request.
Memorials may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Ringwood Education Foundation, with checks made payable to CFO with Ringwood Scholarship Endowment on memo line.
