Hardtner, KS-Graveside service for Tom S. Smith, 93, will be Friday, September 25. 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Hardtner-Elwood Cemetery in Hardtner, Kansas. Viewing will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Tom was born on December 12, 1921 in Piedmont, Missouri to Orin L. Smith and Martha C. Couch Smith and passed from this life in Alva, Oklahoma on September 20, 2015. Tom served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. After leaving the Navy he worked for Adams Company in the blacksmith shop in Wakita, Oklahoma. In March of 1948 he bought the blacksmith shop in Hardtner, Kansas. On November 21, 1945 he and Juanita McDonald were married in Wichita, Kansas. To this union two children were born: Suzanne Marie and Thomas Jeffrey.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita; parents, Orin and Martha Smith; brother Orin Lee Smith; son, Jeffrey Smith and son-in-law, Richard Mahan.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Mahan of Medford, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Tina and Tim Calcote, Toby Mahan and Bill and April Mahan; eight grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren and other family and friends.
