Kiowa

Steven Clark Christensen, 68, of Kiowa, Kansas, passed away December 12, 2025, surrounded by his wife and children, after a long battle with cancer.

Steve, the youngest of four siblings, was born on March 4, 1957, in Kiowa, to Marion and Roberta Christensen.

On July 2, 1977, he married his love, Carolyn Marie Wallis of Alva. They welcomed four children, John, Cody, Mark, and Amy into the world and happily raised them on the family farm northwest of Kiowa. Being the loving father that he was, he was more than content taking his kids anywhere they wanted to go and doing whatever they wanted to do. He was a doting and rather indulgent grandfather to his two grandchildren, Gavin and Freya. His family was his greatest source of joy.

As a child he enjoyed boating, water skiing, and spending time at Canton Lake with his family and that continued throughout his life. He took his children and, eventually, his grandchildren on many a boat ride and “camped” in his motorhome. Anytime his grandkids came to visit, he was always ready to take them off-roading in the golf cart. When he owned his motorcycle, he liked to make long trips with his motorcycle buddies. In his free time, he often liked to repair and improve things around his home and was regularly called upon by extended family to share his fix-it skills.

Steve graduated from South Barber High School in 1975. After high school he completed training to be a diesel mechanic. A few years later, he moved on to roofing houses and doing general construction. He eventually started his own construction company called Total Construction with a partner. After many years in construction, he decided to switch careers and got into oil and gas work. He worked for Woolsey Operating Company in Medicine Lodge and remained there when it was purchased by MACH Resources, working in this industry for the last 19 years of his life.

Steve is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn, and their four children, John and wife, Fennie, Mark, Cody, and Amy, as well as two grandchildren, Gavin and Freya. He is also survived by his mother, Roberta Christensen, his brother, Dennis Christensen and wife, Shirley and sister Kathleen Gilchrist and husband, Larry as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Marion Christensen and by his sister, Sherrill Jackson.

A person would be hard-pressed to find someone as reliable, helpful, and hardworking as he could be and was always someone you could call if you needed a hand. He will be dearly missed by his family members and friends.
