Stephen Mott

Our beloved Stephen D. Mott was born in Hardtner, Kansas on June 17, 1950 to Frank and Helen Mott and was raised on a farm near Kiowa along with his four siblings. During this period of his youth Stephen was baptized into the Christian faith on December 10, 1961. He graduated from Kiowa High School in 1968 and went on to continue his education at Wichita State University earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1972. Stephen put his education to use as an accountant in the gas and oil industries concluding his career in real estate as the personal accountant to the largest commercial real estate holder in Wichita and owner of Emprise Bank. He spent these years in Wichita with his wife, children, and usually a puppy. Stephen married the love of his life, Suzanne Gee, on November 24, 1979, and together they were blessed with 38 years of happy marriage and two beautiful children. Aside from spending time with his family, his greatest joys in life were working outside, playing the piano, spreading his love of music to others, and going on countless adventures through his love of reading. Retirement found Stephen longing to return to Kiowa where he built a home with his wife on the property he grew up on. He was known to all for his ceaseless generosity and kindness. On December 21st of this year he was called home to meet his father, mother, and brother, Fred in heaven.

The light of his spirit is carried on by his wife, Suzanne of the home; children, Katie of New York City and Tyler of Wichita; grandchildren, Isabelle and Theodore of Wichita; sisters, Deanna Wetzel of Wichita and Darlene Cloyd (Buford) of Kiowa; brother, Roger Mott (Trice) of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Deanna Mott of Kiowa; numerous nieces and nephews, and Cooper, the puppy of the home.

Stephen’s family will celebrate his life on the 28th of December at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church located at 205 N. 9th Street, Kiowa, KS 67070.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials through Lanman Funeral Home to the Kiowa Public Library.
