Sam Schurter

December 14, 1939 — June 29, 2022

Burlington, OK

Roy Samuel Schurter was born on December 14, 1939 to Vernon and Marie Schurter.  He met his Lord and Savior on June 29, 2022 in Kiowa, Kansas and will spend eternity worshiping Him.

He grew up in Burlington, Oklahoma and graduated from Burlington High School class of 1958.  Sam attended OSU for one year and Okmulgee Tech studying diesel mechanics.  Sam was a hard-working, energetic young man who loved working on building the “rabbit car” with his cousins, Bruce and Robert.  Sam married his sweetheart, who he said took his breath away, Marilyn Diel, on December 27, 1959. They had three children, Warren Russell “Rusty”, Robin, and Staci Su..

Sam loved the Burlington community and could be found helping wherever needed.    He was a member of Driftwood Christian Church and served faithfully for many years.  Sam enjoyed leading songs at Lions Club and always had a joke ready to go.  He spent his last years serving God, raising his children, farming, and living life to the fullest. They farmed together many years until they added Rusty and Zeb to the family farming business, which was a dream come true for Sam.  He loved having cattle on wheat pasture. Being a farmer is who he was.  He was generous, kind, and had a gentle spirit.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Marie Schurter; sisters, Rose Finley and Doris Daughhetee; his youngest child, Staci Su, and son-in-law, Richard Morris.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Schurter of Burlington, Oklahoma; his son, Rusty Schurter and wife, Terza of Burlington, Oklahoma; daughter, Robin Morris of Choctaw, Oklahoma; brother, Dale Schurter of Rosewood, Ohio; one sister, Darlene Brown of Anaheim, California; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
