Rex McDaniel, aged 85, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026 at Hospice in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born on July 12, 1941, in Cherokee, Oklahoma to John and Faye McDaniel.

Rex was a local farmer/rancher who made his life working on the land that he loved. He was also a successful automobile mechanic for many years where he shared his passion for working on vehicles and talking about cars. Rex loved talking about the history of Route 66 and spent time visiting many local sites. He also shared a love of many kinds of music, a legacy of his father who was a music teacher/musician. Rex worked on his farm right up until his end, which is how he always wanted it to be.

Rex and Joan made homes in Kansas and Florida before returning to and settling in Cherokee, Oklahoma and celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Rex was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan McDaniel and his parents, John and Faye McDaniel.

He is survived by his children, Gary McDaniel and wife, Carolyn, Michaelle (McDaniel) Stratham and husband, Kevin and youngest, Scott McDaniel and wife, Amanda along with his grandchildren, Conrad Statham and Carson Statham. He was the eldest of three children and is survived by his brother, Paul McDaniel and sister, Donna (McDaniel) Poole.

Funeral service will be Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Lanman Funeral Home Chapel in Cherokee. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery south of Cherokee. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee. www.lanmanfuneralhome.com Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
