Phyllis Anne Means

Phyllis Anne (Green) Means went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 22, 2026 at the age of 90 years and 9 months from her earthly home in Cherokee, Oklahoma.

Phyllis was born in Cherokee, Oklahoma on July 23, 1935 as the third daughter of Clarence and Doris (Graves) Green. She grew up alongside her siblings Patricia, Peggy, Priscilla, Larry, and Charles. Graduating with the Cherokee class of 1953, she had the distinction of being chosen as the first Miss Cherokee.

On September 19, 1953, Phyllis was united in marriage to James Robert Means Jr., the boy across the street. To this union was born two daughters and three sons. Phyllis and Jimmy shared their life together in marriage for 67 years, 5 months, and 6 days until Jimmy's passing.

Phyllis embraced her role as wife, mother, and homemaker, which involved, among so very many things, countless hours in the kitchen and at her sewing machine. She was so gifted at both. She spent 60 plus years going to athletic events supporting her husband, kids, and grandkids; counting cattle with Pop; and, so very importantly, was in prayer for us all.

She leaves behind a sister, Priscilla Schanbacher (m. Gene); a brother, Charles Green (m. Mary); her children, Toni, Jamie (m. Jenn), Danny, Connie, David (m. Kimala); her grandchildren,  Mary, Deborah (m. Caleb), Rebecca, Rachel, Sheldon (m. MaKenzie), Alonna, Asher, and Gracie and two great-grandchildren, Hazel Anne and Theodore Beza.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, and one brother.

A Celebration of Life for Phyllis will be held Friday, May 1, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Friends Church in Cherokee, Oklahoma.
