Mark Scott Sturgeon

January 31, 1957 — August 10, 2023

Oklahoma City, OK

Mark Scott Sturgeon was the youngest son born to Lawrence Rockwell “Swede” Sturgeon and J. Elaine Lamle Sturgeon on January 31, 1957, in Enid.  Mark went to be with the Lord and his loved ones that had passed on before August 10, 2023.

Mark grew up with his family on the farm near Helena.  Growing up he had fun playing with his brothers and cousins, but many of his favorite adventures were with his best friends, Delbert Hill and Kirk Hungerford.  Mark attended Helena-Goltry Schools, graduating in 1975.  While in school, Mark focused on his love of athletics and animals.  He was active in 4-H and FFA.  Mark excelled in football and achieved Oklahoma All-State as well as being named an 8-Man All Star Football player in 1975.  He continued to play football in college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University.  Mark enjoyed working with horses throughout many years of his life, whether it was riding in a few rodeos when he was young or working with and breeding racehorses.  One of his favorite times was when he co-directed the Ben Johnson Pro-Celebrity Team Roping and Cutting Benefit for Children’s Medical Research and Children’s Hospital of Oklahoma.  Mark worked in sales in the oil and gas industry as well as with auto part sales throughout his life.

Throughout his years he blessed his friends and family with his big heart, sense of humor, holiday get togethers, and frequently visiting and checking in with them on the phone.  Anytime he could get the chance he would travel to Florida with family to visit his brother for his dose of salt life and beach fun.  Although Mark loved many people and many things, his wife of 26 years, children, and grandchildren were the loves of his life.  His deep dedication and love was evident as he took care of his wife during her long cancer battle.

Mark Scott Sturgeon is preceded in death by his wife, Lynn Sturgeon; his parents, Swede and Elaine Sturgeon, and grandparents, Herbert and Almira Lamle and Olin and Goldia Sturgeon.

Mark is survived by two brothers and one sister, Mike Sturgeon of St. Petersburg, Florida, Mack Sturgeon of Eucha, and Mistie Sturgeon Kline of Alva; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cristalle and Jesse Pelfrey of Edmond, and Lauren and Kevin Bailey of Washington, DC; three grandchildren, Kenneddie and Jackson Pelfrey of Edmond and Guenndolynn Bailey of Washington, DC; one nephew and two nieces, Tanner Sturgeon of Tulsa; Carrington and Taylor Kline of Alva; a loyal companion, Stetson, the rambunctious and fluffy dog; close friends, Pat and Mary Nell Brueggen; life-long friends, Delbert Hill and Mark Calhoun, and many countless family and friends who love him and will dearly miss him.
