Lisa Chapmond

August 30, 1985 — January 15, 2022

Helena, OK

Before passing away on January 15, 2022, Lisa Noel Chapmond, age 36, was known for being open and honest with everyone, some would say, almost to a fault. In her loving memory, the following will be a frank account of who Lisa was and what she leaves behind.

Lisa was born to Cindy Kear and Leon Chapmond in Ponca City on August 30, 1985. She came out bright blue and sucking her thumb. Why? Because Lisa does what she wants. As a child, Lisa was the sweetest little girl, who had her grandpa and uncles wrapped around her little finger, most of the time. If pressed, the sweet little girl would transform into an entity of rage so powerful the bravest warrior would shudder in fear. Numerous credible sources have reported a full 360-degree head turn. This is why we loved Lisa. All those aspects of who she was as a child have morphed into a unique personality that left a mark on every person who ever knew her. Lisa was strong, honest, and stubborn. She was also sweet, generous, and protective. All while being, probably, the funniest person you’d ever met. It is hard to imagine a world without her fierce love, sassy comments, and side-splitting sense of humor. This is why we will miss Lisa.

Lisa is survived by her older brother, Matt Chapmond; her best friend (and Matt’s wife), Cori Chapmond; her nephews, Gavin (10), Westley (7), and Liam (2); her grandmothers, Patty Kear-Ross and Pat Jensen; numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. Additionally, Lisa is survived by her long-term boyfriend, Devon Kearney, with whom she intended to spend her life.

Over the past thirteen months, Lisa was fighting an aggressive form of Leukemia. She was incredibly thankful for the love and support she received from her family and friends, as well as a number of people she did not know, but who could feel the impact she had on the people around her. Lisa couldn’t have gotten as far as she did without the support of her grandma/roommate, Patty Kear-Ross. She would also want to acknowledge all of the nurses, techs, and doctors who cared for her during her several lengthy hospital visits. She loved you all so much: you had become like family to her.

Lisa is preceded in death by her mother/best friend, Cindy Kear, and both grandfathers, James “Papa” Kear and Leon Chapmond. Sr.

With any luck, per her request in life, Lisa is a ghost now. She always wanted to haunt someone. However, Lisa was expressly denied permission to haunt her brother, Matt, by the other inhabitants of his home. If Lisa appears to you in spectral form, please reach out to Matt and let him know.

An intimate memorial service will be held in the coming weeks with Lisa’s family and friends. In true Lisa fashion, she didn’t want the traditional “fancy” funeral. She wanted us to get together and talk about her. She wanted us to share memories, tell stories, laugh, and cry (she’d like for us all to be sad, but not too sad). Lisa believed that misery and comedy should go hand in hand. There is a balance. To quote Michael Scott from Lisa’s favorite TV show, The Office, “Society teaches us that having feelings and crying is bad and wrong. Well, that’s baloney, because grief isn’t wrong. There is such a thing as good grief. Just ask Charlie Brown.”
