Kris Mendel

Kristopher Dean Mendel was born on February 13, 1979 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Anthony and Terrie Mendel. He passed away February 27, 2017. He attended Lomega High School where he enjoyed playing baseball. He graduated in 1998. He then moved to Houston, Texas to attend Vocational School for diesel mechanics. While in Houston he met and married, Shawna Hawley. Together they had two children, Tyson Dean and Augustus Blake. Kris worked in the oilfield for many years and in many capacities before starting his own consulting firm. He married Denisa Ward and had a daughter, McKinsey Kay.

He loved the cowboy way of life and was an avid roper. Kris traveled the southern states on the rodeo circuit and earned his PRCA card that he was very proud of. He learned his love of roping and horses from his role model and grandpa, PW. After several years in Texas he moved back to Oklahoma in 2015 and made his home near his grandmother, Alice. He did what he loved and lived the cowboy way of life everyday working sale barns, feed lots and ranches in the area.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Tony Sr. and Bonnie Mendel; maternal grandfather, Phil Wahling and one uncle, Gus Wahling.

He is survived by his three children, Tysen, Gus and McKinsey; his mother, Terrie Wahling; father, Anthony Mendel Jr.; sister, Jessie Seymour and husband, Trampas; maternal grandmother, Alice Wahling; three nieces and nephews, Zeb, Zoey and Zane; his loving friend, Keeci Gammon along with numerous extended family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Funeral service will be Friday, March 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Loyal Evangelical Church in Loyal. Burial will follow at Forest Home Cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Loyal Evangelical Church Memorial Fund through the funeral home.
