Karen Garvie

Karen ReVae Garvie was born October 5, 1940 in Cherokee, Oklahoma. She departed this life on Thursday, March 26, 2015 in Alva, Oklahoma at the age of 74 years. Karen was the oldest daughter of the union of Floyd and Matilda Allenbach Schupbach. She grew up on the farm in Burlington, Oklahoma. In 1962, after her graduation from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Charles Garvie and Karen were married at the First Christian Church in Alva, Oklahoma. The couple resided in Woodward and Alva, later relocating to the farm in Burlington. Karen was a fulltime wife, mother and grandmother dedicating her life to her church, family and friends. Karen's love of music started at a young age in grade school and blossomed into a career of accompanying the school choir and playing for community events. She played the piano and keyboard in her home daily and instilled a love of music in her family. She was a member of the Driftwood Christian Church where she taught Sunday School and played the piano and organ for many years. She was a member of the Burlington FFA Mother's Club and the Country Girls singing group. Karen was a past employee of the Farm Service Agency and volunteered at the local voting poll in Burlington. She especially enjoyed gathering with her high school classmates at alumni reunions. Karen loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed being a part of their lives. She always had cake, cookies and ice cream in her kitchen waiting for their visits to Grandma's house.

Karen is survived by her husband, Charles, whom she was married to for 53 years; two children, Jana and Brian Lindley of Wamego, Kansas and Brent and Vanessa Garvie of Burlington, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Katelyn and Sarah Garvie and Trevor and Matiel Lindley. She is also survived by two sisters, Donna and Glen Piper of Kiowa, Kansas and Colleen and Cole Ward of Bethany, Oklahoma, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 30, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Driftwood Christian Church in Driftwood, Oklahoma with Max Boothby and Virgil Eubanks officiating. Burial will be at the Apostolic Cemetery southeast of Burlington, Oklahoma with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa, Kansas. Viewing will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 until 7:00.

Memorials may be given to Burlington Education Foundation//Band and Music Department or Driftwood Christian Church Youth Fund through the funeral home.
