John Thomas

Wakita-Funeral service for John S. Thomas, 74, will be Friday, November 4, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Wakita First Christian Church. Burial will follow at Wakita Cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday only from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

John was born on April 11, 1942 in Enid to Sherman Evan Thomas and Martha Williams Thomas and passed from this life on October 30, 2016 in Oklahoma City. John graduated from Wakita High School in 1960 and from OU in 1964. Immediately after college he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He saw active duty in Germany and Vietnam. After active duty he enlisted in the Oklahoma Army National Reserves. He finished with the military with the rank of Colonel. When he was released from active duty, he started and graduated from OU Law School with a Juris Doctorate Degree. He set up a private law firm in Enid, and it was open for over forty years. He was a huge fan of high school and college football, especially OU football. He attended his last OU football game in 2014.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Thomas; his son, John Evan Thomas; grandson, Gavin Sherman Thomas; stepdaughters, Kristy Tipton and husband, John and Leslie Friend; step grandsons, Justin and Josh Johnson; nephew, Doug Seely; brother-in-law, Jerry Seely and his children, Doug and Ashley and many other relatives and friends.

Those who preceded him in death include his parents and his sister, Mary Ann Thomas Seely.
