Jerry Cooper

Tonkawa-A memorial service for Jerry (J.W.) Cooper will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Assembly of God Church in Tonkawa with the Pastor Kelly Coffey officiating. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home of Medford.

Jerry was born January 6, 1941 in Briceville, TN to Margaret Sharp and Walter Cooper. He moved to Tonkawa as a child and attended Tonkawa Public School. On April 15, 1958 he married Cecelia (Joyce) Pendland. They made their home in Tonkawa. To this union two daughters were born. He was a Golden Glove Boxer and was open-class his first year. He never fought novice. Jerry won numerous titles during his boxing career including Golden Glove Champ and first runner-up. He later was a boxing coach for several years for the Blackwell Boxing Club. He attended Okmulgee Tech earning a degree in jewelry making and watch repair. He returned to Tonkawa and worked for Reynold's Jewelry Store for several years. He owned and operated Cooper Concrete for many years and had many satisfied customers. Jerry loved to fish, hunt arrowheads, go deer hunting and just all around enjoy the company of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, thinking nothing more precious than family. Jerry met and married the love of his life, Nancy Brownlee in Medford on December 6, 1996. To this union Jerry also was blessed with two extra daughters. Jerry's hobbies included working with wood, making canes, painting skulls and going to the flea market and visiting with his flea market family. He loved to walk his dog, "Elsie" to the park while he picked up trash, tree limbs and cans as he went along. He also loved to take Elsie to the river to let her run and play.

Jerry is survived by two daughters, Tammy Miramontes, Blackwell; Tricia Cooper, Medford: one brother, Bill Cooper, Texas; one sister, Wilma VanHook, Tonkawa; seven grandchildren, Jerrymi, Heather, Tucker, Edgar, Bethany, Todd and Kira, and six great grandchildren; William, Leslie, Kassandra, Payton, Jr. and Zuley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy and sister, Janice.
