Jerry Alexander

May 9, 1945 — July 12, 2023

Hardtner, Kansas

Jerry Everett Alexander was born May 9, 1945, in Ashland, Kansas to J.T. and Beulah (Condra) Alexander. He passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Kiowa District Healthcare Manor at the age of 78.

Jerry attended Coldwater K-12 School and graduated in 1963.  He attended NWOSU in Alva, Oklahoma for a year and half.  On August 21, 1966, he married Glenda Cole in Hardtner, Kansas. On November 21, 1966, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and left for Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri for basic training. Then after several months at Ft. Carson, Colorado, he went to Ft. Benning, Georgia for MP training and returned to Ft. Carson to perform his MP duties until November 23, 1968, when he received an early out discharge to continue his farming.

In 1970 they moved to Kalvesta, Kansas where he operated a 10,000-acre ranch and farm.  David and Darin were both born while they lived there.  In 1975 they moved to Kinsley, and Jerry worked at the Coop and later at Midwest Land and Cattle in charge of the cattle operation.  In 1972 he attended auction school in Decatur, Indiana and then moved to Hardtner, Kansas, where he leased a ranch, ran cattle, and did auctioneering.

Later he worked for Jim Molz hauling salt water from oil wells, doing work on terraces and taking care of cattle.  After Molz’s Jerry then drove a truck hauling wall board for Arensdorf Trucking out of Medicine Lodge, later hauling for Metro Express out of Wichita.  In his later years he hauled hay for son, Darin, to dairies in Oklahoma and Texas. Throughout his entire life, Jerry was active in helping with horse sales and helping Larry Johnston with farm auctions.

Jerry enjoyed attending his grandkids events and activities.  Going to auctions, buying, selling and trading/accumulating items was one of his favorite pastimes.  He was active in supporting the 4-H and church auctions by auctioneering.  Jerry enjoyed visiting and catching up with people at Yur Place.
