Jay Dee Wedel

Jay Dee Wedel was born on September 22, 1933 in Isabella, Oklahoma to Irvin A. and Hilda (Nightingale) Wedel. The oldest of six children, Jay Dee grew up in the Ringwood area and attended Oakdale School through the eight grade. He farmed with his dad and his brother, Glenn for three years, and then went to finish high school, graduating from Ringwood in 1954.

He attended one semester at Northwestern Oklahoma College, then returned to his parent’s home and continued helping on the farm. On October 7, 1956 he married Anna Mae Unruh in Isabella, Oklahoma. Dad and Mom worked side-by-side in their farming and dairy operations. They enjoyed 62 years together before her passing on August 6, 2018. To this union two children were born, Dianna and Rick. During this time, he lived near Ringwood where he farmed and raised cotton, watermelons and ran a large dairy with his brother, Glenn. Dad was a lover of music and a skilled guitarist. He enjoyed his time playing with the Travelers, the musical group he founded with is brother Bill, then later in life playing and singing the old gospel songs at church. Dad and Mom joined Zoar Church in February of 1998. Dad held the office of church treasurer for many years and his church family was very special to him. On March 17, 2019 he married, Doris Unruh and they just celebrated six years together.

Dad was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Hilda Wedel; his wife, Anna Mae; three brothers, Glenn, Bill and Gene Wedel; two nieces, Lugenia Haffner and Marsha Schmidt; two nephews, Curtis Ivan Schmidt, Jr. and Randy Wedel; two sisters-in-law, Jewel Wedel and Ruth Wedel.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Doris; daughter, Dianna Buller (Doug) of Goltry; son, Rick Wedel (Angie) of Ringwood; grandchildren, Rebecca Buller, Deavon Guertler (Sam), Cole DeQuasie and Rowdy Sandifer; two great-grandchildren, Everett and Quinn Guertler; one sister, Darlene Holub (Verland) of Ringwood; one brother, Jerry Wedel of Ringwood; two sisters-in-law, Donna Wedel of Ringwood and Doris Wedel of Meno and many nieces, nephews and cousins which he cherished.

Funeral service will be Friday, August 8, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Zoar Church in Goltry with burial at Oakdale-Wedel cemetery near Ringwood.
