Gene Richard Crossette, of Jet, Oklahoma was peacefully promoted to the presence of his heavenly Father October 1st 2018 at the age of 81. Born May 4th 1937 in Wichita Kansas, to Cyril and Abbie Crossette. He spent early years living in Springfield, Illinois where he experienced some of his fondest memories.  His family returned to Wichita where He attended Allision Junior High and graduated from Wichita West High School where he excelled in football and basketball, He then attended Garden City Community College a was a two sports star. He attended Emporia State, and Friends University pursing a teaching degree playing football at both universities. He Joined the Army in 1959 serving overseas in Germany as a tank driver and also as a helicopter door gunner. After retiring from Boeing in 1995 Gene and Carolyn moved to Jet, Oklahoma and became active in the community. Gene coached 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade football teams for Timberlake, he belonged to the Jet Lions Club, and attended the United Methodist Church.

He found the love of his life Carolyn in 1962 his love was so big that it encompassed her three little children as well. They would be blessed with the birth of another daughter and son. Gene and Carolyn would celebrate life and love together for 56 years, they raised a family, they together overcame the many challenges and heartaches life brings. Through them they grew to cherish each other all the more as the years rolled by.  He did the things that are often overlooked but are indispensable in a man. He faithfully went to work often putting in overtime to give a little extra to the family. He paid the bills, changed tires, rescued with can of gas, mowed the grass, raked leaves, shoveled snow and painted the houses,  fixed the dreaded plumbing, played with his kids, coached their teams, threw a lot baseballs and footballs, usually after a long tiring day at work. Even risked his cars letting his teen aged kids drive them. And, once in a while, he’d squeeze in a date night with his wife.

He was a compassionate teacher, patient coach, nurturing mentor who sought to help his charges strive for excellence. He used the love of sports to cultivate character, confidence and life skills, like working hard and not quitting, the value of teamwork and responsibility.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ann Shaffer; grandson, Abram Worman; granddaughter, Ariel Crossette.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; his brother, Sheldon Crossette (Cleone); his children, Rick Crossette (Cheryl), Rachelle Glenn (Mike), Carl Crossette (Mindy), Karla Worman (Warren), Christopher Crossette (Melissa); sixteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, one great- great-grandchild and a host of other family and friends. He will be remembered by as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Memorials may be given to the Jet Fire Department and the Timberlake P.T.O. care of “Paws”itively Packed through the funeral home.
