Elizabeth Terry

March 30, 1914 — March 27, 2017

Elizabeth Catherine Terry entered heaven’s door on March 27, 2017, just 3 days shy of her 103rd birthday. She was born to John and Maria Bahm of Cherokee, Oklahoma on March 30, 1914. Imagine the things she experienced and the changes she had been a witness to! Family gatherings were spent by her side, asking questions about the “old days.”

On October 16, 1937 she married Carl Terry and they started their married life living in Kiowa, Kansas. Two daughters, Mary and Carolyn and a son, Glenn were born there. City Service Gas, the company Carl worked for all his life, transferred them to Satanta, Kansas in 1948. While there, another son, Steve joined the family. In 1956, they were transferred to Ottawa, Kansas and daughter Norma completed the family. In 1965 they were transferred back to the gas plant in Corwin, Kansas and from that location is where Carl retired in 1973, and they moved to Hazelton, Kansas. In August of 1974 Carl passed away.

Elizabeth then moved to Kiowa. She traveled all over Europe, Hawaii and most of the continental U.S. She took up hobbies of painting and quilting. She belonged to the BA County Historical Society, German’s from Russia, The BA County Commission on Aging and participated in the community plays in Kiowa. Active in Kiowa Senior Citizen’s, she led exercises for years. In October of 2014, she moved in with her daughter, Carolyn in Wichita, Kansas. It was in this home where the Lord called her home.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers; two sisters; husband, Carl; son, Glenn and daughter-in-law, Pam.

She is survived by one brother, Bobby of Kaw City, Oklahoma; daughter, Mary Wiederholt and husband, Leo of Princeton, Kansas; daughter, Carolyn Bell and husband, Jack of Wichita, Kansas; son, Steve Terry and wife, Mary Jane of Derby, Kansas; daughter, Norma Ricke and husband, Mark of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; seventeen grandchildren; sixty-one great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; dozens of nieces; nephews and many friends.

She loved her family, gardening, and her hometown. She was a beloved member of St. John Catholic Church in Kiowa, Kansas. She will be greatly missed.
