Eldon was born on December 2, 1914 to Alvis Dyer and Nina Reed Dyer in Ringwood. His mother died when his sister, Luella was born in February, 1917. They lived with his mother’s parents, the Reeds after her death. At the age of 4½ years Eldon and Luella lived with their father until August of 1921 when Eldon came to live with Granddad, Charles O. Dyer, who ran the hardware store in Ringwood.

He spent eighteen months in the Reception Center for new inductees at Ft. Sill. He was then sent to Cheyenne, Wyoming to Quartermaster Officer School. On December 23, 1942 he was commissioned as an officer in the Quartermaster Corp, attaining the rank of QM First Lieutenant. Eldon married Velma Newton that Christmas in Ringwood. She returned to Cheyenne with him. He served active duty in the CBI Theater from December 1943 until the end of the war. Eldon returned to Ringwood where he and Velma made their home. Eldon took over his grandfather’s hardware business in 1946 and operated it until the end of 1972. Eldon and Velma had two daughters, Pamela born in 1947 and Susan born in 1952.
