Della Jack

September 2, 1914 — December 7, 2015

Della Jack died this Monday, December 7, 2015, at her Hollister, California home with her children and care givers in attendance. Della and her husband, Max, a retired Naval Officer and meteorologist, made their home in Hollister in July 1968.

Della was born in Amorita, Oklahoma on September 2, 1914. She grew up on the family farm and started teaching elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse near her home while going to college at Northwestern State University in Alva, Oklahoma, the first of her family to graduate from college. She married Max Jack on September 26, 1941, and shared a wonderful life until Max's passing in 1991. During World War II, Della worked for Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas as an engineering copy editor while Max was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Della and Max raised their three children during their twenty-seven years of service in the US Navy. Della retired from teaching in the Hollister public school system, was active in the California State Retired Teachers Association, and was a steadfast member of the Calvary Baptist Church. After Max's passing, Della managed her family farm in Oklahoma. Her family and friends will miss greatly, her presence, generosity and Christian soul
