Dean Gerber

July 13, 1943 — January 17, 2016

Earl Dean Gerber, 73, slipped away to be with his Lord on January 17, 2016 in Alva. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, January 23, 2016 at the Driftwood Christian Church at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Driftwood Cemetery. There will be no viewing at the funeral home.

Dean was born on July 13, 1943 in Kansas to Ray Gerber and Jonnie Martin Gerber and grew up in Alfalfa County, Oklahoma. He attended school in Driftwood and graduated from high school in 1962 at Byron Driftwood High School. Dean received his bachelor's degree in education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He completed his master's degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in elementary and secondary special education. He began his teaching career at Sayer Public Schools. He continued his career in teaching in the Tuba City, Arizona area. After retirement, he moved to Cherokee. He was a member of the Driftwood Christian Church. He enjoyed woodworking and writing crossword puzzles. He loved riding his golf cart down the streets of Cherokee taking his dog, Jessie, along for a ride, and meeting friends for a cup of coffee. Dean's life was influenced by family members, especially Grandma Jane. He touched the lives of many with his positive attitude and mischievous smile. He will be remembered for his practical jokes and love of music.

He is survived by his daughter, Gretchen Larson; his son, Travis Gerber; his brother, Gary Gerber; their spouses and children and numerous relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Jonnie Gerber.
