Dean Rodger Campbell

August 25, 1944 — August 15, 2025

Jet, OK

Dean Rodger Campbell, beloved husband, father, grandpa, uncle, and friend entered eternal rest August 15th, 2025, at the age of 80 years old at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Dean was the youngest of seven children born to William Donald Campbell and Irene Wilcox Campbell in Enid Oklahoma August 25th, 1944. Dean attended Jet Public School, graduating in 1962 as class valedictorian. He then earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Northwestern State College.

Dean married Mary Etta Veatch on August 20th, 1966, in Burlington OK. They would teach at Carmen, OK until Dean was drafted into United States Army during the Vietnam war. Following his honorable discharge, Dean and Mary moved to Capron OK where he pursued his career in farming. They made their home in Jet, OK in 1975, raising their three sons: Kyle, Troy, and Kurt. Dean would raise wheat and run stocker cattle, continuing the generational shorthorn herd and managing a farrow-to-finish hog operation, for which he earned National Pork All American in 1979.

Church and community were an important priority to Dean. He was a member of both the Burlington and Jet Lions Clubs. Dean was a charter member and president of the Jet Lions. Dean supported the local and county 4-H and FFA programs and earned Honorary Chapter Farmer from the Jet-Nash chapter. Dean and Mary received the Alfalfa County and Oklahoma Farm Family of the Year in 2004 from the Oklahoma Farm Bureau. Dean was a member of the Nash Christian Church, singing in the choir and serving as a board member and elder.

Dean was most proud of his Grandchildren. Watching them in their various activities brought him immense joy. Dean loved sports of various kinds, particularly the Dallas Cowboys, Oklahoma City Thunder, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and the St. Louis Cardinals. Most of all, Dean loved Mary Etta and the life they built together of nearly 59 years at the time of his passing. Dean was dedicated to maintaining the family farm that his grandfather staked during the Cherokee Strip Land Run of 1893. His broken body was a testament to the toil he put towards that soil, during times of drought, disease, low prices, and significant debt. All these sacrifices were made with his wife and family by his side. Dean’s legacy is the family he and Mary Etta nurtured and grew as their most successful crop.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents Don and Irene Campbell, sisters Myrtle Ellen Shaklee, Donna Marie Smith, Brother Donnie Campbell
