Cherokee- Connie Joan Shaklee LaGrow passed into her Savior's arms on August 24, 2017, her 79th birthday. Connie was born on August 24, 1938 to Don Ivan Shaklee and Gwendolyn Lucile Richardson Shaklee. She was raised on a farm one mile south of the Timberlake church near Jet, Oklahoma. Connie attended Jet schools and then proceeded to Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater. She was united in marriage to her beloved husband of almost 60 years, Jerry Edgar LaGrow on July 13, 1957. She and Jerry established their home in the Jet community and eventually built a home on the family homestead where they lived for over 45 years. Connie was a dutiful member of the United Methodist Church in Jet, United Methodist Women and an active member of the Jet Industrious Oklahoma Home Community Education Group of which she served as a State Chaplain, the Awards and Reports Chairman and the NW District Representative. She served the county organization as President for two different periods of time. Connie was always working on some kind of craft, ceramics, folk art painting, sewing, embroidery or quilting. She was a co-founder of the Four Corners Quilting Retreat. She also served as a children’s Sunday School Teacher and Junior High Youth Group and Children’s Church. Connie operated Playhouse Preschool for four-year-old children in her home for eight years, and also tutored children at the Timberlake school system.

Connie is preceded in death by the love of her life, Jerry LaGrow; parents Don and Lucile Shaklee; and brother, Jerry Ray Shaklee.

She is survived by her two loving children, Penny and Ron Gregory of Spring, Texas and Jeff and Alana LaGrow of Edmond, Oklahoma; her five adored grandsons, Blake and Jennifer LaGrow of Edmond, Oklahoma, Tyler and Lauren Gregory of Houston, Texas, Daniel Gregory and his fiancée, Tara Schooley of Dallas, Texas, Austin LaGrow and Kelsey Parrott of Edmond, Oklahoma and Collin and Barbara LaGrow of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by two great grandsons, Tripp and Dax LaGrow of Edmond, Oklahoma; sister, Lana Schiltz of Oklahoma City; nieces and nephews, JD and Katrina Shaklee, Tammy and Clif Mitchell, Eric and Katie Schiltz, and Gwen and Colby Barrington.

The family would like to thank our Angel on Earth, Linda Kiser, for her extraordinary care and dedicated friendship to her "Miss Connie," and to her husband, Hershel, for all his unwavering support and to Tony Lee for his hard work and friendship. We would also like to thank her caretakers, Natalie, Franqui and Troyce; Dr. Chatterji and Dr. Schrader; the nursing staff at Integris in Enid and the Hospice Circle of Love in Enid.


Funeral service for Connie will be Monday, August 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Jet United Methodist Church with Rev. Kaela E.P. Burdge officiating. Burial will follow at Cherokee Municipal Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee. Viewing will be Sunday from 3:30-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Boys Ranch of Gore, Oklahoma or Hospice Circle of Love in Enid, Oklahoma through the funeral home.
