Cleo Jahay

Ellen Cleo Jahay, age 97 of Hazelton, Kansas, went to her heavenly home peacefully on June 29, 2025 with family by her side.

Cleo was born August 25, 1927 at Sand Creek, Oklahoma, to Phillipine Florence (Arnold) Thomas and Herbey Edward Thomas. She was raised and went to school at Fargo, Oklahoma.

She married Homer Thomas Jahay on July 17, 1945 in Fargo, Oklahoma. Cleo and Homer moved from Fargo to Anthony, Kansas in 1958, later moving to Hazelton Kansas in 1963. Cleo and Homer raised four children, James Jahay, Verda Weakley, Stanley Jahay, and Earnest Jahay. Together they farmed and raised angus cattle. Cleo was an active 4-H leader for forty-three years. She enjoyed helping kids learn to help themselves. She was an avid gardener and vegetable canner, she also liked to can sand plum jelly. She loved all her grandchildren and enjoyed getting together with family and friends during the holidays or whenever they could. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren show animals at the Barber County Fair. She enjoyed eating watermelon on the pond with special friend Debbie Luthie. She was a very hardworking lady who was dedicated to farming and will be missed by all.

Cleo is survived by three sons and one daughter, James Jahay and wife Margaret, Verda Weakley, Stanley Jahay and wife Debbie, Earnest Jahay and wife Marlesa; ten grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; one sister, Fayella Woods.

Cleo is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Homer Thomas Jahay; six brothers, Arley, Melvin, Orval, Norman, Delbert, and Floyde Thomas; two sisters Florence Wilcoxson and an infant sister.

The family would like to thank Country Living and Patterson Health Center for the great care the last four years. God Bless you all.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday July 2, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Kiowa United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Rosehill Cemetery near Hazelton. Viewing will be at Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. Kiowa on Tuesday July 1, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present 6:00-8:00.
