Carolyn Sue Fellers, 83, of Byron, Oklahoma, went home to be with her Lord on December 11, 2025.
Sue was born in Mooreland, Oklahoma, on July 18, 1942, to Abb and Lillie Hildreth. She grew up in Mooreland and graduated from Mooreland High School in 1960. Sue graduated from Northwestern State College in 1964 with a degree in vocal and piano performance and in music education. After graduating, she taught art and music at Burlington Public School for three years.
Sue met the love of her life, Kenneth Fellers, at Northwestern while they were both students. They started dating in 1962 and got married on August 25, 1963. Kenny and Sue moved to Kenny’s childhood farm in the spring of 1967, where they farmed and raised a family.
Sue was one of the most loving, kind, empathetic, and compassionate people God placed on the earth. The reason she was so amazing in so many ways is that she knew she was a child of God, deeply driven to love well because she knew God loved her. She accepted Jesus as her savior as a precious 7-year-old and went on to live out her salvation in all she did and with every person she met.
Family was Sue’s life and vocation. She delighted in motherhood, and her grandchildren brought her so much pride and joy. At each birthday, holiday, and special occasion, a card arrived specially picked and personalized. Sue knew family was to be cherished, and all her family knew how deeply she loved them.
Music was a part of Sue’s DNA. Sue taught piano lessons and touched many lives. Her biggest passion was sharing her musical gifts in her church, First Baptist Church, Cherokee OK, where she served as the volunteer Music Director for over 45 years. During this time, she wrote over 35 scripts for Christmas and Easter musical performances.
Food was also central to who Sue was, and everyone knew she was the best cook in Alfalfa County. Nothing brought her more joy than putting together food goody baskets at Christmas for her shut-in friends, and for anyone who needed to know they were loved and remembered. There are countless others she touched in this way throughout the year.
Serving food to a bunch of hungry kids at her church on a Wednesday was such a thrill and allowed her to extend God’s love in a personal way. Kids were her passion. Kids who were served through the Oklahoma Baptist Children’s Home were particularly special to her. Sue served on this board for several years. Sue and Kenny are strong, passionate supporters of the mission organization.
Friends were also central to who Sue was and how she loved. Everyone who called her a friend said she lit up every room with her kindness and love. Sue celebrated with those who celebrated, mourned with those who were sad, and took care of her friends through phone calls, texts, cards, flowers, and food. She valued others and was intently interested in another person’s life and their story. Even in the end, she was asking visitors to do something meaningful for someone each day.
Sue is survived by her husband of 62 years, Kenneth, and immediate family of son, Dr. John, and Pastor Courtney Fellers of Manhattan, KS, daughter, Karen and husband, Rodney Howell, Hoover, AL; four grandchildren, Madison and husband, Mason McDown, of Oklahoma City, Jay Howell of Hoover, AL, Camille Fellers of Savannah, GA, and Joshua Howell of Bradenton, FL, and sister, Mrs. Betty Covalt of Colorado Springs, CO.
