Betty Boyd Sullivan Crain
Betty Boyd Sullivan Crain, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and cherished member of the Goltry community, passed away peacefully at the age of 90. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, on November 22, 1934, to Robert Charles Sullivan and Beatrice Boyd, Betty lived a life marked by love, service, and joy.
At the age of 15, Betty moved to Oklahoma to live with her aunt and uncle, Mildred and Jack Wilson. She attended Goltry High School, where she met the love of her life, Charlie Crain. The two married on August 2, 1953, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned decades. They made their early home northeast of Helena near Fish’s Park, then south of Goltry, and eventually settled in the home Charlie built for them on the family farm northwest of Goltry.
Betty’s warmth and energy touched every corner of her community. She served as a Girl Scout leader and on various church committees. A gifted cake decorator, Betty—working alongside her dear friend Greta Krejci—crafted stunning birthday and wedding cakes that became the centerpiece of many local celebrations. She also worked at the Goltry Post Office, greeting and assisting her community.
Betty had a deep love for travel, which took her to places including Spain and Israel. One of her greatest joys was visiting her son David’s home on the Gulf of Mexico, where she spent countless hours beachcombing for shells and sea glass. She and Charlie also welcomed three exchange students from Germany and Spain into their home, where they were able to experience life on the farm.
An avid runner, Betty was a member of the Enid Running Club and competed in races across Oklahoma. She notably completed a half marathon at the age of 50, a testament to her determination and spirit.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; son, Stephen Harold Crain; aunt and uncle, Mildred and Jack Wilson; brother, Bob Sullivan; father and mother-in-law, Harold and Edna Crain; beloved husband, Charlie Crain, and grandson, Charlie Blessington.
She is survived by her children: Joe Crain, Brady Crain and wife, Margaret, Teresa Crain, and David Crain and wife, Carol; grandchildren Amy Blessington and husband, Justin Hershberger, Jodi Smith and husband, Ty Smith; great-grandchildren Gus Blessington, Dakota Smith, and Samantha Smith; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Her life was a beautiful example of strength and love, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
