Anita "Nita" Louise Garner Fox Birdwell

November 7, 1936 — February 24, 2024

Kiowa, Kansas

Anita “Nita” Louise Garner Fox Birdwell, age 87, peacefully drifted into the arms of her Lord and Savior on February 24, 2024 in Kiowa.  She was born to Orville R. Garner and Geneva Grace Lillard Garner on November 7, 1936 in Anthony, Kansas.  Nita and her older brother, Cecil Dwane and younger sister, Vanda (Domnick) grew up three miles south of Hazelton, Kansas.

Nita graduated from Kiowa High School in 1954 and then moved to Kansas City, Missouri.   She married F. Dwaine Fox on September 5, 1954.  To this union two sons were born: Bradley M. Fox and Curtis M. Fox.

Nita attended the American Business College in Wichita, Kansas.  Upon completion of classes, she worked for Continental Trailways as secretary to the Passenger Auditor.  Her expertise was in statistical typing on the Royal Typewriter.   Each position Nita held throughout life involved typing or posting numbers either in large companies or in a bank.   She worked for Montgomery Ward in Kansas City, Missouri, Southland Corporation, and Mobil Oil, both in Dallas, Texas and also worked for a temp service that led her to several great jobs in Kansas City, Dallas, San Antonio, and Phoenix.  She also worked nine years at the First State Bank in Kiowa, Kansas.

Nita loved music and was accomplished at piano, played clarinet in the band and orchestra, and sang in the Girls Glee Club, Madrigal, and Choir.  She also was a member of the Greater Dallas Sweet Adelines, and Kiowa United Methodist Church Chimes and Choir.

Nita lived many places and was a world traveler.  Of all the amazing and wonderful things she saw, did and had in life. . . family and special friends were always the most important.  Her absence leaves a hole in our hearts and a missing link in the family chain.  Her sweet smile and soul will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Nita is preceded in death by her parents, Orville R. Garner and Geneva G. Lillard Garner; brother, Cecil Dwane Garner; sister, Vanda Garner Domnick; daughter-in-law, Teresa Fox, and many other loved ones.

She is survived by her two sons, Bradley M. (Nancy) Fox and Curtis M. Fox of Kiowa, Kansas; grandsons, Bradley O. (Johanna) Fox of Missouri and Joshua (Cathy) Fox of Virginia; great grandchildren, Tristan, Sierra, Ashlyn, Jordan, Logan, and Bently; many nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; great-great nephews, and many more family members and special friends.
