Funeral service for Helen Roberts-Tharp, 99, will be held at the Helena Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday, November 28, at 10:00 am. Graveside service will be in Mound Valley Cemetery at Thomas, Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. November 28, 2018.   The Rev. Dean Holt will officiate. Helen was born in Des Moines, Iowa on September 22, 1919 and went to be with the Lord on November 24, 2018.  She was raised in Custer County, Oklahoma.  She attended Custer City Schools.  She attended Oklahoma A&M (now OSU) and Bethany Peniel College (now SNU).  She received her Master’s Degree from SWOSU. Helen was teaching in Custer City schools and was attending the Church of the Nazarene where she met her husband of 56 years, Charlie Roberts. Charlie served as pastor of churches in Kansas, Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma, where many times Helen would teach school. She taught mostly elementary, but taught nearly every grade from Kindergarten to twelfth.  In 1995 they moved to Helena to be near their son, Charles.  She served in ministry alongside Charlie until his passing in 2001. In 2005, she married Coval Tharp.  They were married almost three years before his passing in 2008.  Helen loved playing board games and going camping and fishing in the mountains.

She is survived by one son, Charles Roberts and his wife, Connie of Helena; three grandsons, Kevin Roberts and wife, Kari of Cherokee, Jared Roberts of Yukon and Adam Roberts of Yukon; three great grandchildren, Kinsy, Kort and Katera Roberts; brothers, Warren Southwell and Robert Southwell; sister, Violet Smith and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Charle L. Roberts; husband, Coval Tharp; brothers, Kenneth Southwell and Wayne Southwell; sisters, Marie Tharp and Blanche Dodson.

Memorials may be given to Helena Church of the Nazarene through the funeral home.
