KIOWA-George D. Smith passed away on Monday, January 07, 2013. Funeral service will be Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Christian Church in Kiowa. Burial will follow in the Byron-Amorita Cemetery.
George was born on January 28, 1921 to George Bert Smith and Maggie Gray Smith at Amorita, Oklahoma. He attended and graduated from Amorita High School. He was a lifetime resident of Kiowa, Kansas and Amorita, Oklahoma area where he was a farmer. On August 31,1942 he and Shirley DeGrange were united in marriage. He was a member of the Byron Christian Church where he served as a deacon and treasurer and attended the Kiowa Christian Church. He was a 32nd degree mason holding membership in Cherokee, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; one son, Michael; three sisters, Mildred, Irene and Wanda; one great grandchild, Michelle Crouch.
He is survived by five children, Spencer Smith and wife, Mary of Kiowa, Burton Smith and wife, Jan of Kiowa, Sheila Mullinex and husband, Michael of Seymour, Indiana, Cheryl Ransom and husband, Doug of Wakita, Oklahoma, Doug Smith of Greensburg; ten grandchildren Justice Smith, Charity and Mark Chan, Misty Crouch and Michael, Robert and Nancy Willson, Sandra and Jeremy Birzer, Shane Smith and Alicia, Ashley Mullinex, Dusty Ransom, Crystal and Jim Brill, Fawn and Drew Zimmer; eleven great grandchildren Freedom and Courage Chan, Wyatt, Bridgitte, Weston Crouch, Brennan and Karsen Birzer, Trinidy and Olivia Smith, Blakely and Braylon Brill.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Friends of the Kiowa District Hospital and Manor Foundation, Inc. or the Byron-Amorita Cemetery and given to the funeral home.
