Dennis Boor

August 25, 1943 — October 6, 2022

Kiowa, KS

Dennis Edward Boor was born August 25, 1943 in Winfield, Kansas to Edward Joseph Boor and Betty Viola Pulliam Boor. He passed from this earth in his daughter, Pam’s, home on Thursday, October 6, 2022.

Dennis grew up in Sharon, Kansas, on the family farm along with his four brothers and two sisters. Dennis and his brothers were known for their onery antics and just about anyone around there has a “Boor Boy Story” or two. Dennis met his future bride through a common friend at a wedding dance in Sharon. She was from Alabama and was living with relatives while working in Wichita. A co-worker invited her down to attend a wedding dance in the little town of Sharon, Kansas. That meeting blossomed into a marriage proposal and Dennis married his “Alabama Angel”, Mabel, on June 8, 1963. They were married nearly 58 years before her passing in 2021. From that union, two daughters were born, Pam and Tammy. Family meant the most to him. Whether it was camping with his siblings and their families or taking his family to the Grand Canyon, getting away and celebrating life experiences with them was a priority. He enjoyed teaching his grandsons how to weld and assisted them with many projects over the years. He also enjoyed the comradery of the “guys” meeting at his shop for coffee in the mornings, sharing stories, and consulting on each of their many projects to see them through to completion.

Dennis was a salesman at heart. He spent many years with Wes Smith selling cars at the Chevrolet dealership in Kiowa. He then went on to open a stock trailer manufacturing business in Hardtner and expanded it by moving the business to Medicine Lodge. During those years, he also enjoyed his side job working for his brother, Jerome’s, rodeo stock contracting business. He also enjoyed helping local auctioneers as a ring-man bringing home many $1.00 a box finds that his daughters enjoyed rummaging through to find “precious” surprises to be treasured. Later, Dennis and Mabel along with the help of their daughter, Pam, opened The Horseshoe Restaurant in Kiowa. He custom built the buffet line and dessert bar with his trademark accents and railings made from horseshoes. Following his son-in-law's lead, he also went into the trucking business for a few years. After working on the big rigs, he developed and patented a transmission jack that he sold for many years traveling and delivering them to several different states. As his wife’s health deteriorated, he retired from the business and worked on various hobby items like restoring tractors, repairing trailers, etc.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mabel; sister, Carol, and brothers, Gerald and Jerome (Jerry).

He is survived by his daughters, Pam (Tony) Hess of Alva, Oklahoma and Tammy (Chuck) Graves of Kiowa, Kansas; his grandchildren, Kyle (Jacy) Graves, Austin (Summer) Graves, Lane Hess, and Dalton (Brook) Hess, and his seven great grandchildren, Keaton, Kase, Jaylee, Taten, Tenley, Trace, and Rynlee. His surviving siblings are Don (Bonnie) Boor, Bob (Carol) Boor, and Helen Hawkins along with many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
